Sonic Art Ensemble presents a Smalley retrospective

August 2007. Sonic Art Ensemble gives its farewell concert with a retrospective of Roger Smalley's works on 20 October 2007. The pieces in the program are Trio (2002), Echo IV (1983), Poles Apart (1992) and Ceremony II (1989).

The ensemble, formerly known as the Seymour Group, has been performing and premiering Australian contemporary music since 1977. The current artistic director is Marshall McGuire.

Piano Concerto 2 in Brisbane

August 2007. John Chen plays Smalley's Piano Concerto No 2 with the Queensland Orchestra on 31 August in the orchestra's Contempo series at the Queensland Orchestra Studios. The concert will be conducted by David Stanhope.

Smalley's Birthday Tango nominated for Classical Music Award

September 2007. Roger Smalley's piece Birthday Tango has been nominated for a 2007 Classical Music Award in the category 'Best composition by an Australian composer'. The awards are presented annually by APRA and the Australian Music Centre. Smalley will also perform at the awards ceremony in Sydney on 12th September, playing his own Three Studies in Black and White. More information: APRA website and the AMC website.
